Julia Roberts in a horror? Better than you think

I thought it was actually a very good film. I didnt realise when I started watching it that it would be so graphic, I never thought of Roberts doing a Period Horror, and she does better than i would have thought... although the accent is a bit dodgy at times. John is excellent- a very scary Hyde/Jekkel! Glenn Close makes a scarely good whore mistress! all in all a good film well worth watching!

I Love The Craft

The Craft is one of my favorite movies of all time. I just love it so much, everytime I watch it I go into this fantasy world. It's about a girl named sarah(Robin Tunney) she moves into a new town due to some bad past experiences. In the beginning everything goes great, she becomes best friends with these three girls that are interested in the occult and practice witchcraft. They are known as outsiders in the school, and when sarah becomes friends with them, they form a circle. Sarah feels wonderful, finally she feels like she belongs. The three girls consist of nancy, the gothic wicked leader(fairuza balk), bonnie, the insecure one(neve campbell), and rochelle, the shy one(Rachel True). Suddenly Sarah realizes that their spells and wicked fun have to come to an end. She feels like everything is going out of control and that the gang, especially Nancy is going a little insane and is using her power in evil ways. When Sarah tries to leave the circle, nancy turns her back on her and tries to ruin her life in every way she can. This is seriously a great movie, and if you are looking for a wicked fun time, definately see the craft. All the actresses are great, especially Fairuza Balk, she is so hot and so damn gorgeous. I would give The Craft 10/10

Difference makes the difference

This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. All of you who regard this movie as absolute sh*t obviusly are not intelligent enough to grasp all of the subtle humor that this movie has to offer. It shows us that real life and "ficticious" action can produce a winning combination. Also, as a romantic comedy, it has one of the most clever ways for two people to find each other. Name me another movie where you can see all of that as well as Donald Sutherland singing a song like "They're Going to Find Your Anus On A Mountain On Mars."

Leather-clad kick boxing women - what else do you want ?

Any lover of 50's 'B' movies should tune into this ridiculous, over-the-top, bad-taste film which despite everything is great fun to watch. Shannon Tweed may be limited in her acting range, but for entertainment value give the girl a gold suspender belt in recognition for her services to cinema.

'Electra' concerns a wheelchair-bound (and therefore emasculated) meglomaniac called Roach, who seeks world domination in a James Bond-villain kind of way. He needs a serum which can be passed on sexually and Shannon Tweed's step-son Billy (whom she fancies) has the serum in him and they both become the target of Roach's henchmen (and women - there are two particularly appealing black-clad, erotic but deadly, kickboxing female assistants).

The plot is relatively tight and everything reaches a climax with Shannon Tweed becoming Electra and fighting her stepson's girlfriend for his bodily fluids. Roach meets his demise with an exploding head finale (like Scanners), and everything trundles along happily to a selection of out-takes before the final credits.

First rate entertainment - anyone who slates this film should have their video taken off them - they don't understand the meaning of fun.

BEST SCENE - Billy's girlfriend has a fight with two leather-clad girls, ripping the heart out of one of them !!!

Always Satisfying To See Punks Get It

Even though it was kind of a low-class type of story and movie with mostly bad, profane people tossing the f-word around like it was candy, it still was an enjoyable movie in a lot of parts and certainly had a satisfying ending. Perhaps that's why it was successful enough to spurn a sequel (albeit, a weak one.)

Tom Berenger is good to watch. He's convincing as a tough guy substitute teacher "Jonathan Shale" who won't put up with the punks in the classroom. And, boy, you see the worst group of high school students I've ever seen on film. Tough to imagine kids harder to encounter than these slime-balls but satisfying to see them dealt with accordingly.

You have to love it.

Surprisingly, good

As a rule, direct-to-video films aren't particularly good. Another reliable rule is that movies with the prefix "cyber" in them aren't likely to be any good (this film is also known as "Cybertech P.D."). Well, somehow, this film manages to beat the odds and be worthwhile, and that is an amazing achievement for this type of film. It's nothing particularly special, but it has a good sense of humour and a reasonably well-known cast that helps keep the movie buoyant. Sure, you'll forget about it as soon as the credits start to roll, but if you're looking for a decent time-filler that is somewhat off-the-beaten-path, then I suggest that you give this movie a chance.

Who cares about the plot?! The point is to have fun!

In "Jing cha gu shi IV: Jian dan ren wu" (called "Jackie Chan's First Strike" in the US), Jackie Chan has to find a missing nuclear warhead. Of course, if you pay too much attention to the plot, you'll miss the rest of the movie. Like any of Chan's movies, the point is to have him kick ass in various and sundry ways. The snowboarding sequence in my opinion should get registered alongside Gene Kelly singing in the rain as one of the great cinematic moments. And the ladder? I DON'T KNOW HOW HE DOES IT, BUT HE DOES IT!!!!!!!! So just have fun watching this (and I guarantee that you will). You could be deaf and still get a kick out of it.

Excellent Low Budget Action--No Matter What The Star Says

It has always amazed me how the star of this film, Fred Williamson, has gone to such great lengths to badmouth this flick and the work of his former friend, writer-director Larry Cohen. I've read it and I've heard it on DVD audio commentaries--"Hiring Larry for Original Gangstas was a mistake," Williamson says. Yet he has nothing but praise for his own work as a writer-director.

Is the Hammer on crack, or what? This is a very slick, very cool little low budget action flick that shows the old time stars to great advantage. Cohen did a great job. In fact, if you took all the good parts from every movie that Fred Williamson produced and directed himself and put them together, the film you'd end up with would still be 1/100th the film this one is (of course a compilation of "good parts" from Hammer's self-directed flicks would only be 15 minutes long).

I love Fred Williamson. His pre-1976 movies like "Black Caesar" and "Bucktown" are classics, and I like him as a performer. I'd LOVE to see him work in more mainstream movies, as a lead. But the man has only been in three halfway decent films in the past quarter century: "Starsky and Hutch," "From Dusk Til Dawn," and "OG." And "OG" is the best of the three in my opinion. His self produced-directed efforts, his Italian-Euro cheapazoid flicks--they ALL rank as some of the absolute worst movies of all time.

So, don't listen to the star of the show, just watch the movie. "Original Gangstas" is a solid flick.

Clever dialogue gets me every time (no spoilers)

Definitely a movie for people who ask only to be entertained and who do not over-think their movies.

Lots of action, lots of great dialogue (e.g. fun to quote), a little intrigue, and stuff blowing up all over the place. Samuel L Jackson and Geena Davis had great chemistry. Violent, but not gory. The fact that the female part was the competent action lead is a pleasant turn-about.

Have seen the movie more than a dozen times and still enjoy it enough to put it back in my favorite films rotation every 3 or 4 months. I initially rented the movie because Samuel L Jackson was in the film, but was caught up in the events surrounding Samantha's quest to regain her memory and have never looked back.

All you cerebral folks out there -- suspend disbelief for once, take yourself a little less seriously -- you might actually enjoy yourselves!

An Experiment?

This movie has something strange.. I think it's some kind of an experiment. There is nearly no storyline which develops during the running film. But there is an amazing cinematography by George Mooradian! (Widescreen-Version only!) It seems to be a test of how to produce a movie which "lives" by the moving camera. Sometimes there are nearly no cuts in 1 minute, or so. The editor tried some new ways of filmmaking, I think. From this point of view, the film is amazing! The Scope-Camera moves really fast and virtuously... But maybe Albert Pyun is as dumb as everyone thinks and so they just made another low-budget-product!!! Who knows........

A Well Done Sleeper

"Set it Off" is another brilliant little B sleeper by the talented F. Gary Gray. What sets this film apart from your routine crime caper/heist flick is that it features some very impressive and strong performances by Jada Pinkett-Smith (one of her very best roles) and Quen Latifah. Vivica Fox, Kimberly Elise and the underrated John C. McGinty were also quite effective in supporting roles. Blair Underwood, who I lilke, was sort of wasted as reverse eye candy. The love story sub plot was a bit if a distraction, only in a minor way. But at the core of this film was the bond between these ladies, all driven to rob banks for various reasons. What they all shared was their desperation. Instead of cliched cardboard characters, we are served pretty well fleshed out characters with as much depth as time allows. Some have mentioned they didn't like the ending, but I rather did. Queen Latifah was outstanding as a hardened career criminal. There is one scene where Jada's character stands up to her and it's tasty.

All in all, a pretty dang good thriller film that should be seen. The performances are what elevates it above the norm for this genre.

Confusing, But Still Fun To Watch

Here's another film I watched when it came out and then later when the DVD was released and enjoyed both viewings, despite the fact I got "lost" several times. It's about time for another look because it's well-worth it and who knows....maybe I'll finally figure it out!

If you get a little confused trying to follow the plot, don't feel stupid. This isn't an easy story to follow but it gets high marks for keeping it interesting despite that problem.

The interesting characters, good cinematography, fun James Bond-like gadgets, just the right amount of action scenes and one very memorable heist scene with Tom Cruise dangling from a wire all make this an enjoyable two hours of entertainment. That scene with Cruise trying to break into this vault-like room remains as the one of the better tension-filled scenes I've ever witnessed on the big screen.

The final action scene with the speeding train and helicopter also is very memorable. John Voight, Emmanuelle Beart, Henry Czerny and Jean Reno make it a fun cast to watch, too. Note: stick with this film and forget the sequel. Despite the confusion, this film is still fun to view.

If god didn't want us to masturbate, he would have made out arms shorter.

Eric Roberts is the new shock jock brought in to revive a flagging radio station. His Howard Stern antics are encouraged to get the station the ratings.

He and Jason Gedrick team up to deliver. Things start to go strange when someone calls the station and confesses to murder. Jon (Gedrick) jumps into a new BMW and calls Cynthia (Leonora Scelfo) for some hot sex after his fiancée (Jennie Garth) gives him grief over the car. Soon, Jon is in over his head and Karlin (Roberts) is over the edge.

Not a complete waste of an hour and a half, but the only great treat came from Scelfo.

Jet Li rocks!!!

In Stand By Me, Vern and Teddy discuss who was tougher, Superman or Mighty Mouse. My friends and I often discuss who would win a fight too. Sometimes we get absurd and compare guys like MacGyver and The Terminator or Rambo and Matrix. But now it seems that we discuss guys like Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Jet Li. It is a pointless comparison seeing that Lee is dead, but it is a fun one. And if you go by what we have seen from Jet Li in Lethal 4 and Black Mask, you have to at least say that he would match up well against Chan. In this film he comes across as a martial arts God.

Black Mask is about a man that was created along with many other men, to be supreme fighting machines. Their only purpose is to win wars that other people lose. They are invincible in some ways. Now that is the premise for the film, but what that does is sets up all the amazingly choreographed fight scenes.

Jet Li is a marvel. He can do things with and to his body that no human being should be able to do. And that is what makes watching him so fun.

Besides the martial arts in the film, Black Mask is strong with humour and that is due to the chemistry that Jet has with his co-star, the police officer. They are great together. But to be honest. if anyone is reading this review, they want to know if the film is kick ass in the action department. And the answer to that is a resounding YES!!! Lots and lots of gory mindless action. You will love this film.

Nice but could've been better

This movie is a remake of the 1992 Hollywood thriller 'Unlawful Entry' after the horrendous Takkar. Fareb is a pretty decent remake but it is a scene-by-scene lift from the original.

I wished Vikram Bhatt added some new twists and turns to the plot. He has a flair for doing that. But he totally missed it there.

Newcomers Faraaz Khan and Suman Ranganathan show promise and can unblock a future of prospects before themselves. Milind Gunaji was good too.

Music is very good, especially 'Yeh Teri Aankhen Jhuki Jhuki'. This song is my favorite and I can't go to sleep without listening to it at least once in a day. 'O Humsafar' is also a good song too. Editing is fine and so is the cinematography.

As mentioned earlier, Fareb could've been much better if it had its own twists and turns. I already watched the Hollywood original so I already knew what's gonna happen in the climax. But those who haven't seen the original, watch it. I recommend Fareb to you guys. You'd probably love it!
