Most movies are overrated in IMDb, but this one is underrated

This movie is Rated a 7.2 here by IMDb voters; I feel it should be rated higher. Perhaps a 7.9, which might move it into the top 250 of all, and perhaps it deserves that.

The ending of this movie is sterling, of the highest quality. Pacino really lets rip.

The other actors? Sofia Coppola is, as others have pointed out, not all that great. Talia Shire? She was never that good, and she does an "OK" job here. Both of those actresses got into movies via their relative, Francis Ford Coppola, who directed this film. Nepotism....it shows. How Talia Shire ever got as much work as she has, I will never know....

Keaton is held back a bit in this movie, perhaps so as not to overshadow Pacino. Not one of her best performances.

Andy Garcia? I am not all that big a fan. I think his performance here is overrated a little bit. He is a ham. And Pacino is, too. But he has something Garcia will never have.

But many other rather good roles for a lot of great character actors, who perform well. Those character actors, along with Pacino, are the heart of this movie. That, and a very good script and production values and direction. Seamless direction!

A high quality film. Almost as good a script as parts 1 and 2.

I give it a 7.9.

Wanna Be a Wise guy?

One of the best Mafia movies I've ever seen. This and The Godfather are movies I must recommend if you like gangsters, wise guys, etc. This movie is actually based on a true story. The real Henry Hill, who is the main star of this movie, actually said it was at least 90% true. He than said it was probably 98% accurate. This movie expresses a lot of the gangster ways and how they really did things.

Summary: This is pretty much a biography on Henry Hill, who as a kid always wanted to be a gangster, and he actually worked for them. It shows how a young kid grew up helping the mafia and becoming a mobster himself. This is a true story and really shows what being a wise guy is all about.

Overall: Definitely a 10/10 movie. Really makes me want to be a wiseguy.

Laugh riot and suspense

One of those movies aimed solely at entertaining the viewers. No. 20 not only has a fair share of comedy but also sustains the suspense through.

Mohanlal and two friends are a group of moneyed vagabonds who get trapped in a murder that takes place on the train from Trivandrum to Madras. How they manage to prove themselves innocent and also identify the murderer forms the crux of this movie. Mammooty makes an appearance as himself (the star) and helps the three prove their innocence. Mammooty's role is a highlight of the movie along with Lal's effortless comedy track. Watch out for the scene where Lal tells an enraged Soman that he was only asking Soman's daughter what brand of soap she uses.

Acting-wise there is nothing extraordinary in the film, since it relies on slapstick humor and a fast paced story. The music is also regular stuff and nothing special. Commercially the movie was very successful and added to Lal's start value.

Watch it when you are in the mood for entertainment.

If you like watching people walk to their cars you will enjoy this one

This is certainly NOT an Oscar contender. I knew this would be pretty bad from the title on the cheap DVD, "Payback L.O.U. Death!" (What the hell is L.O.U. Death!???), but I never dreamed of this. It seems like half of the movie is composed of people walking; to and from their cars, in and out of places, and another endless parade of pointless, pathetic gestures. All brilliantly directed with no music, action, or purpose. Wasting time doesn't count. But as far as what this full length feature achieves, wasting time is the only thing I can think of.

Don't even let me comment on the acting. Its just embarrassing! If you want to watch a few 'actors' shamelessly embarrass themselves for an hour and a half, you get it here. But if you thought you could get away with retracing humour from them, you are in for an unpleasant surprise... it will be the saddest thing you have EVER SEEN! And trust me, its not something you want to watch or sit through.

The kind of movie where nothing in it is good. And everything in it is not just bad, its bad bad bad. So bad that I can't even find the right word to describe how bad it is. Like I said, embarrassing. And painful. A painful, embarrassing experience.

It doesn't end there, before its over they make sure they put us through only the most awkward, disgusting sex scene you have ever seen. Featuring the worst looking middle aged woman you have ever seen. If you don't have an attraction for your mother, watching this might cause you to puke! It is also interlaced with another gross sex scene of 3 men raping.... you guessed it, another ugly woman! All 3 leading woman in here are butt ugly. Which seems to be the standard for the most amateur of family home videos.

Apparently the person who made this was born into a family who have been in the film business since it started and have extensive credits. Their last addition to their family was undoubtedly a mistake. The man can't write, direct or do anything associated with film-making if his life depended on it. I suggest you find something that you're good at! I wish I can forget this but it leaves such a stink afterwords, I'm going to need therapy to get it out of my mind! I'm warning you, avoid this like the plague. Take it off every shelf and deposit it in the nearest garbage can. Wipe it clean off the face of the earth!!!

Almost good in spite of itself, but the script works against it.

As the story opens, architect Cliff Murphy (James Brolin) has retreated into his profession after the death of his wife. He joins his co-workers who have gathered at a local bar to signal the sale of his employers' firm to a new set of partners. The celebrants soon miss Cliff's presence and for good reason: he has scampered off with a splendrous young blonde, Jennifer (Isabelle Truchon). Apparently lacking self-denial, the duo soon consummate their newly-hatched relationship within the cramped bounds of Jennifer's automobile. This affair of the loins turns equivocal for Cliff during the passionate pair's follow-up date the next evening when, after their common interest results in a soft porn living room floor encounter, Jennifer disappears and Cliff finds himself to be alone, but for an upstairs and very fresh murder victim. Cliff then pays a visit to a friend and criminal attorney, Sara (Meg Foster) whom he must convince of his innocence. We are then tasked, alongside the beleaguered architect, with recalling any clues that might bring about his freedom. If one would care to bother with analysing the scenario, it will soon become palpable that an ongoing flux of coincidences fancifully moves the paranoia based action. The film is paced to a quick beat, and the largely capable cast generally avoids over emoting, with specially good work from Foster. Brolin, whose hirsute predilections for this production give him the appearance of a latter-day Wolfman, is not obligated to perform beyond his circumscribed aptitude, and his customary combination of perplexity and outrage is appropriate for his character. Talented Dorothee Berryman manages to make something interesting of her role, but June Chadwick cannot seem to figure out hers, and is undone in the attempt. Director Jim Kaufman induces some excellent turns from his cast but his endeavours cannot handle by half the absurdities of the screenplay, by Paul Koval and the film's editor, Paul Ziller. Montreal's suburbs in autumn are served well by a blend of skills from cinematographer Rodney Gibbons and set designer Richard Tasse, but the score by Marty Simon is consistently intrusive. In sum, this is a piece which moves along smartly and provides choice moments from some accomplished performers, but the jarring elements stemming from an overstrained and oft silly narrative ultimately lay it low.

great movie

Izzatdar is a great movie and is very underrated in Bollywood. Dilip Kumar is fantastic and gives a splendid performance. His character has shades of the "Angry young man" that Amitabh portrayed. But Dilip is the angry old man in this film. Govinda who also gives a great performance is the angry young man in this film. The bad guy in this movie was very good. He was quite different compared to the typical bad guys in 80s bollywood. Madhuri looked beautiful in this film and does give a good performance. Otherwise Anupam Kher was another superstar in this movie. I really liked this film a lot. I i recommend this to anybody who hasn't seen this film to give it a go.

I Bet You Had No Idea that "The Disturbance" a full featured Indie Movie made by a group of Talented South Florida Filmmakers in the Early 1990's was the First, and still, Only, Motion Picture of its kind. Edited and re-edited as, a World Wide Theatrical Released Horror Feature, and a Highly Acclaimed, Educational Docudrama about a young man suffering from Schizophrenia. One Version Edited for two distinctly different markets. Never before or since, has a film had such a……… Split Personality!

It is true; this movie is shallow at times, even A little corny at times, but upon closer inspection and due diligence, here is what I found out!

After researching this film more closely, I have discovered the Following:

The actor playing the leads Mother, (Clay's Mom), is the One and Only... Carole Garlin, real life mother of Jeff Garlin, Co-Executive Producer and Co-Star of HBO's Hit Comedy, "Curb your Enthusiasm". Jeff is also a member of Stand-Up Comedy's "In Crowd", and stars with Eddie Murphy in "Daddy Day Care" as well as dozens of Leno and Letterman walk-ons and TV Appearances Galore...

I wonder if Jeff has ever seen the movie. Especially, the controversial Shower Scene between Mother and Son? Wow....Now, that is just plain crazy film making. And years before Quentin Tarrintino!

The Girlfriend, played by newcomer, Lisa Geoffrion, (Now deceased), was the real life daughter of Hockey Great, Boom Boom Geoffrion.

The Films Visionary and Executive Producer, Ron Cerasuolo, was the originator of the idea behind the Billion Dollar, "Planet Hollywood" Theme Restaurant Concept (People, April 1991). Ron is also leading the development of "Class Action TV" a revolutionary concept in Network Television , giving "Power back to the People" and Entertaining them at the same time!

"The Disturbance", was one of the first Indie Films made and distributed, years before Independent Films were the Rage.

In Fact, the Docudrama, "What's Wrong with the Neighbors Son?" was the originally titled 1989 film, by which "The Disturbance" was created.

Surprisingly Entertaining

So first of all, my 8/10 rating is in comparison to other movies of this league--no budget, 70's-80's action films.

I had always had in interest in seeing Black Cobra but never got around to buying the movie. So when I saw Black Cobra and Black Cobra 2 at Walmart a few days ago, I picked it up. I was most impressed with the second film. It's very entertaining considering:

1. Its Badassness counterbalances its cheesiness

2. Fred Williamson kicks ass for an hour and 33 minutes

3. There is one really good explosion

4. Fred Williamson crashes through a window and blows away six terrorists with a shotgun

5. Most of the dialog, surprisingly, is very decently written and pretty funny.

Synopsis: Fred "The Hammer" Williamson reprises his role as Robert Malone, a street-smart cop who likes to law down the law and blow sh*t up. Malone's police chief gets frustrated with him when he continues to stubbornly deal in his own brand of justice. So the chief sends Malone to Manilla, the Phillipines, in a foreign police exchange program.

Mallone then teams up with Lt. McCall in the Phillipines, who seems to be a tight wad, but ends up becoming his friend. When the two go to retrieve Mallone's stolen wallet, they stumble upon a murder and soon get pulled into a conspiracy. Together they kick a lot of *ss, and shoot a lot of criminals.

One of my personal favorite parts is when McCall's little boy (who for some reason has a really ridiculously dubbed voice) gets kidnapped, McCall approaches the man responsible for it. The man turns around to shoot McCall, but he shoots the man like eight times, point blank. And Fred Williamson, being a martial artist, beats those henchmen to sh*t.

This movie is very reminiscent of Dirty Harry, if you dig that series. Fred Williamson has a lot of natural acting charm, Nicholas Hammond delivers and is very believable as well. This movie is a gem, don't miss out on it.

Better Than Expected

Chinatown Connection is a decent, if unspectacular, action/martial arts movie. I was expecting something a whole lot worse given the stars - a virtual Bruce Lee impersonator, Bruce Ly, and Lee Majors Jr. They are both surprisingly adequate, although Bruce Ly's dubbing varies in quality. There are a couple of treats in the supporting cast for genre fans, namely Art Camacho and indie scream queen, Brinke Stevens. Actually, given the novelty value of the cast and the reasonable production values, it's rather surprising that this film is so obscure.

The plot concentrates around John (Bruce Ly), a policeman who reforms violent police officers by teaching them martial arts, and a trigger happy cop, Houston, played by Majors. Predictably enough, the two are paired together and they set out to find the person responsible for selling cyanide laced cocaine. The film's plot is pretty thin but it does provide sufficient opportunities for some decent martial arts action and gun fights. A shoot-out in a church and the finale stand up as well made action sequences.

IMDb has the film listed as being released in 1990 but it feels a lot older than that. The fashion, music and mountains of cocaine all seem very 80s to me and I wouldn't be surprised if this was made considerably earlier. Chinatown Connection is pretty standard 80s/early 90s martial arts fare. Genre fans will enjoy it, as will fans of Brinke Stevens and Art Camacho.

Unusual story generally handled well.

Director Kurt Voss has typically avoided the familiar and never more so than with this early effort made with a very low budget, an uneven psychological thriller that delivers satisfying results. The plot involves a loner named Bud, played by Brad Dourif in his usual highly idiosyncratic fashion, who works at an undemanding job evenings in the freezer box of a liquor store, restocking shelves as needed, while gambling on horses during the day. Bud lives in a tawdry apartment building in a rundown area and when a man and his purported sister move into the complex, the relationship between this trio becomes the focus of the film. The newcomers may not actually be siblings, and the man, Matthew (Michael Harris), an artist, soon gives instructions to his roommate Randi (Sammi Davis) to approach Bud and develop erotic contact with him. It is soon made plain that Matthew utilizes the histories of those seduced by Randi as thematic series for his gallery showings but in this instance Bud, who has secrets of his own, proves to be a harrowing subject. The connection between the horseplayer and his boss George, the liquor store proprietor (Vic Tayback), is interesting largely because, as the story wends its way along, we and George are often surprised by whatever Bud will do next. Voss, who contributes to the script, likes closeups and uses them effectively while keeping us in the dark as to his characters' motivations, all the way until the picture's insightful ending. Michael Harris, as the rather debased painter, steals the film with his insouciant performance, as he plays off the rest of the small cast with aplomb. Sammi Davis is believable as the possible paramour of Bud, and Vic Tayback is wry in his scenes as the cynical store owner, bringing an air of clarity to the storyline whenever it flags. HORSEPLAYER is edited well and is supplied with an aptly moody score, and only occasional lapses of sense in the dialogue and Dourif's off-putting strangeness will cool one's enthusiasm for it.

A South African video journalist is sent to neighboring Namibia to do a story on a man who has been going around and killing black laborers. The killer, Nhadiep, has an almost mythical status to both the white farmers and the black laborers with his ability to evade capture in the racially segregated country.

What a film (good)

With great actors such as Sean Bean and John Hurt this is really an amazing movie with great cinematography and a larger than life type story that is both bright and well written.

On the acting side Bean did his do's and is more believable than most actors acting Afrikaners in almost every movie, (ahooy Mr Shucks) Windprints was a brilliant piece to watch and it is kind of sad that it was banned in its country of origin, South-Africa. But hell if you really want to watch it, pay a visit to the South-African film Archive in Pretoria. That is the only facility with a copy.

Road trip that goes nowhere ........

Annabelle Larsen is never convincing as a blind woman who leads three doofuses on a meandering road trip, after they pick her up hitchhiking. The four main characters are developed, but highly uninteresting. Along the way to a North Carolina destination there are various trysts and an awful lot of meaningless dialog. The mysterious female hitchhiker eventually manipulates the group to the outer banks. After more tedious discussion about metaphysical nonsense the film eventually tips over into ridiculous conclusion land, with an ending that seems like it belongs in a completely different movie.
