A Korean Skyfall - Simply Awesome
This is one of the best movie I have seen in recent years and I don't think it is less than Skyfall..... specially the cinematography is awesome and special effects are so amazing that we see rarely and only in big production house movies.
The main characters are smart and beautiful.. and Director didn't forget to put an emotional touch of unspoken love in the movie.... the background music is impressive and go along with situations and action sequences and at several points it charge you specially towards the ending.
Movie will keep you entertained and busy.. with duration of around 2 hours, you won't feel losing interest at any point.
Above all, the Director Mr. Seung-wan Ryoo really knew the art of making a true entertainer.
I have become a true fan of characters and of course South Korean Cinema too!

Deep Dark Canyon (2013) Bloom Towne is a small-town sheriff under the thumb of the well-established, deeply influential Mayor Dick Cavanaugh's family. a so-so low budget B movie
was praised obviously by one of the persons who's either the director or one of the producers. i have difficulty to distinguish this movie's genre, a horror one, a thriller or anything else that i just failed to categorized. the screenplay is kinda ridiculous, a mayor's family could have such independent super power to put law and the execution authority to hunt down couple of young people? what era is this? feudalism era or dark age? i just hate to see dimwit producers or lousy directors of b movies use IMDb to promote and fool people to watch their blind investments. this is not a movie that you'd go back to the movie theater and pay for the 2nd viewing experience. read carefully of that review and judge by yourself.
when i watched it again, i've found out something even more ridiculous: when the two brothers ran to the object they shot and thought it to be a deer, their running route was just ridiculous, they ran along the forest opening in a very wide big curve, the victim was lying behind a big trunk and thick high bush. so it meant that it's absolutely impossible for them to shoot that target from where they hid, and it's impossible to see the target. this is so ridiculous, man.
Masaker 2: Graba brez povratka (2013) Horror, action and laughing in one step
Best slovenian production in recent year,hopefully nomination for Golden Lion in Cannes. Great performance by amateur actors on low budget with a lot of professionalism. The story takes place in slovenian region Slovenske Gorice in the countryside, where the locals live peaceful and normal live, with few exceptions though. The narrative is wrapped up in the Hitchock's perfectionism with critical moments enriched with stylish music reminiscent a bit of Tarrantino's Django unchained. The movie takes us to the story where everyone can find his own place and role but it shows us just a crucial details of normal and relaxed life that can be turned up-side down in one day, hour or even a second. However, +10 for casting, scenario and great performance. In shortly-horror, action and laughing in one step.
Shortcut Romeo (2013) Alas, There was no SHORTCUT to its climax!!
So, here is Susi Ganesh who is overly confident of his 2006 hit Tamil movie (THIRUTTU PAYALE) that he tries his luck by remaking it in Bollywood. Playing the role signifying the title is our Neil Nitin(as Suraj). the film also has Ameesha Patel(Monica; continuing her dumb character in Race 2) and Puja Gupta(as Sherry; seen in GO GOA GONE). The movie is extensively shot in Mumbai and Kenya. In the entire hide and seek game between Neil and Ameesha, it's the viewers who get restless! There is no entertainment quotient or novelty either in the script,screenplay or dialogues. "Main shola, tu meri Coca- cola" are some of the types tossed at viewers. I wish I could actually think of loads of exciting parts in this sub-standard offering except an unexpected climax and a dishoom dishoom between Neil and poor tribals!!

swan turns duckling
Decent actors horribly miscast in Movie trying to be more than it ever can be.
Plot: Company owner (Christian Slater) is in danger of losing his business to jealaous competitors in Russia. His wife, a swan lake ballet dancer, must turn once again from a duckling to a swan to say alive.
Though the Movie has a cool title, potentially good and renowned actors and on the surface a descent plot it turns out to be really crappy. A would be late night B-Movie turns into art-house action bottom shelf dust collector. It tries too hard to be something it is not: the script is amateurish and feeble, and it is too obvious that the writer is trying to keep the Viewer interested by using amateur-like methods.
Cole Houser, Angus MacFadyen and Christian Slater deserves and can do better, I guess they too suffer from bad economy like us normal folks.
I give 3 out of 10, if your sleeping pills do not work...see this Movie.

The East (2013) A successful operative for an elite private intelligence firm is tasked with infiltrating an anarchist group known for executing covert attacks upon major corporations. However, she finds her priorities changing as she befriends the members and begins to develop romantic feelings for its charismatic leader.
Stunning and unpretentious
The East is the kind of movie that makes you want to join the fight, raise your voice and be heard.
The good. Extremely immersive. A incredible story with lots of emotions, conflicts, opposing moralities, and a stupefying journey. It is gripping and you will not be left unmoved.
The actors. Brit Marling and Ellen Page both give us a great performance. I was disappointed by Alexander Skarsgård, I thought that he was the weak player of the cast. The rest of the cell was pretty solid: Toby Kebbell, Shiloh Fernandez, Aldis Hodge, and Danielle Macdonald. And I should mention the nice work done by Patricia Clarkson as the director of the private security firm.
The bad. The ending is rushed. It feels like there was missing material at the end of filming and they couldn't go back to get what they needed and had to edit it with what they had.
The ugly. Nothing.
The result. A must see for anyone.
Kutti Puli (2013) Kutti Puli (Sasikumar) is a happy go-lucky good hearted ruffian, whose mother (Saranya Ponvannan) wants him to settle down. But our hero does not believe in love or marriage till he meets Bharathy (Lakshmi Menon), who changes his attitude. But his enemies will not allow him to lead a respectful family life. Meanwhile a Silambatam match breaks out into a haphazard fight between Puli and a local gang; the events turn out to become a bloodbath after the goons beat Puli up pretty badly. Post the trauma and pain, will Puli avenge his pride? What happens to Bharathi's love? Can Puli lead a normal life that his mother always wanted to? The rest of plot unveils with all these questions answered.

Action Drama
Debut director Muthaiah clearly making a mark with a clean commercial film. The film is swift with its comic sequences and the audience could pick it up though it was scattered into pieces and widely plot- abberative. The director successfully delivered his script, meeting the expectations of the crowd. When everyone was awaiting Sasikumar's next directional venture (after his trend-setting film subramaniapuram) the director, started to substantiate his acting career with consecutive successes. The film is neatly paced with humor, romance and sentiments, striking a perfect balance for a commercial film. And needless to quote, Saranya's phenomenal performance is a vital contribution, helping the film to attain some quality. She is the best character artiste in and around the industry not without a reason. Inevitably, we could see the concordances of another trend-changing work, Paruthiveeran, in the base plot of the film. The opening scene with the death of Lal due to regional disputes and the transition of his son in the village, visualization of the songs, the actor's mannerisms and yet a number of factors in the film purely reminds us of Ameer's classic. Though its very tedious to direct a reality film in a rural backdrop without any correlation of two great classics of modern times (subramaniyapuram and paruthiveeran), the film-maker has given his best shot. Kudos to the legendary directors Bala and Balaji Sakthivel who emphasized on reality films and literally persuaded hundreds of films and film-makers through their evergreen-classics Sethu and Kadhal, that changed the long- prevailing scenario of South Indian cinema. That was his profound film making style that swayed number of classics which has been luxuriating our industry.
Credits to the casting team for a bunch of perfect pick for an antagonist and the villainous crew. Music helping the sentimental touch in a great way but credits to Saranya for a perfect and mature execution. Usage of too many old songs in the film hinders the pace of the script and tend to annoy after a few occasions which is a major and evident flaw. The stunt sequence of silambam (an ancient Dravidian martial art) is a treat to action aficionados. The perfect placement for the interval creates the necessary hype for the film to a great extent. The visuals of the song, supporting the introduction of Laxmi menon is another major flaw where its neither imagination nor sequential. However, the controversial pair is successful for the second time in terms of so-called media-chemistry. Most importantly, the twist in the tale that led to an unpredictable climax is unique for the gallery would have been anticipating Saranya's death way ahead. The text slide at the end of the film showcased the theme and makes us wonder how the director conveyed it eventually.
Sasikumar, being an irrevocable brand in the film fraternity and also among all classes of audience, sensibly realized his responsibility of satisfying them and achieved it too. Kutti puli, one of those rarest commercial films that makes you cry. The actor who has also transformed into a cult figure in cinema, should also consider to retrieve to direct as the people are waiting for his signature films.

Behzat Ç. Ankara yaniyor (2013) Enemmy (2013) All in all it's a cop drama that keeps you intrigued and entertained till the very end.
As Enemmy begins we see a meeting of builders who pay protection money to a powerful criminal named Mukthar Memon (Zakir Hussain ) in an almost obligatory fearful manner. The film's plot deals with the unexpected disappearance of this cache of money, 500 koka's to be precise, on a Raigad Highway which is ambushed by an armed and highly skilled foursome. The anxious don in an act of madness goes on a rampage suspecting his competitive mafia top bosses and begins a gang war in the city. He wants his money back and will go to grave lengths to take it even if this means bringing the city to a standstill reflecting very poorly on the government in power. Director Ashu Trikha showcases how bloodshed can be a result of cunning moves from higher ups or officials almost like leading lambs to slaughter. The men instructed to handle the case are headed by Sunil Shetty (Eklavya Karmarkar, fondly known as Bhau), who we see return to a role he is most comfortable in and that's full blown action. He plays the cool, suave and calm plain clothes leader of the special Unit 9. It's been a while since we've seen Anna in action which almost makes me forgot what made him a star back in the 90's. He comfortably jumps straight into the action with a raid on the Don's hideout, based on information from our 2nd Unit member and planted mole in Mukhtar's gang, Mahaakshay Chakraborty. The other 2 support roles are played by Kay Kay Menon (Naeem Shaikh) and Johnny Lever (Eric Collaco). Amongst a group of actors so diverse and talented I thought it would be an uphill battle for a youngster to shine. Given a meaty role, Mahaakshay has stood the test, with full marks on the emotion and definitely above average in the action.
What i admired most about the portrayal of Unit 9 was the realistic and raw feel of emotion and camaraderie amongst the officers. 'Brothers of the sword' of sorts, whether it was the maturity of a boy to a man in the size of his pegs or an accusation being filed each man backs the other up. Unit 9 functions like the 3 musketeers except there are 4 of them. They are best of friends personally and professionally. Unity is strength here as well as all for one and one for all is the spirit amongst them. Eklavya's friendship with Naeem goes back to their childhood days a bond which is strong and powerful. Mukhtar the Don is now behind bars but the gang war continues, with a reputation and possible votes at stake the Centre decides to send in a specialist. Throwing gasoline over an already raging fire and in enters Mithun Chakraborty as Yugantar Sharma to temper the situation in Mumbai city. Here's where the twist in the tale takes places as he soon realizes who those 4 masked bandits are and the cat and mouse chase begins. Unit 9 here are the perpetrators and the investigators. It's always a treat to watch Dada on screen, the most underrated cinema legend in his own right I thoroughly enjoyed how he cracks the whip singly on each member of Unit 9.
The story boils down to an intense police drama with a mixed bag of emotions from belonging to distrust to the literal taking a bullet for a brother. A sensational shootout results in the killing of Naeem Sheikh (KK Menon) as well as members of the don's gang in the cross fire. A vast array of emotions are showcased here from internal confusion, shock and extreme anger. Members of Unit 9 reach the spot to see their fallen comrade. Grief plus arguing with CBI man Yuganthar Sharma begins and from a blame game this develops in to a quest as the men now are determined to get justice for the killing of their fallen comrade. The matter at hand and prime focus is to bring to justice the dreaded Don. The story may seem cliché at points from the use of clandestine detective tricks, unnecessary over running of lines, a horrible item number to an I've Seen This Before ending but all in all it's a more emotional take on a cop drama that i can remember in recent times. I've definitely seen better work from Zakir Hussein in the past and feel he's better with a menacing touch than a tapori don! Johnny Lever has been underutilized and should have been allowed to provide some comic relief. At times he looked caged.
All in all it's a cop drama that keeps you intrigued and entertained till the very end. Enemmy throws light on a Mob-Police-Political tainted System and a dangerous nexus plus how the 3 of them co-exist and flourish side by side each feeding off the other. From the Top to the Bottom how corrosion of conformity exists and how anybody could do anything for a price as well as ambition. The enemy is truly within us and society's weakness is reflected and a can of worms is opened up. How has corruption, taking the easy way out and the greed for money eaten its way from law enforcement to leadership is what the film asks You? The film also shows several actors and characters in their own space and is intriguing with its numerous twists and turns. Enemmy throws light on various serious issues. Why would those who upkeep the law resort to stealing or robbery? The film showcases the grave steps officers take to make ends meet and protect their loved ones. Truly a multi starrer with suspense, action and exposing a sordid system which confronts all of us. A sign of the times! Is Material greed and wealth the only solution to your problems? If you're rushing into theaters to be entertained like I do then this is definitely worth a watch.
Blaze You Out (2013) Blaze You Out tells the story of Lupe, a strong-willed aspiring DJ, and her younger sister Alicia who live in the Esperanza Valley, a community that is suffocating by generations of heroin use. When Alicia witnesses a murder and disappears, Lupe sets out on a dangerous journey that forces her into the town's ruthless underworld. She quickly discovers that in order to save the person that matters most, she must harness the power that exists within her and connect with the divine that surrounds her.
Try not to exaggerate.
The reason I watched this movie is that it has an original story. I give it points for that and a few more for some good performances, especially including Elizabeth Peña, Raoul Trujillo, Veronica Diaz, and Melissa Cordero. It just wasn't well written. The story has people showing up with no clear idea who they are or what their connection to the plot is. During important scenes I wondered things like, Who is that? What place is that and why did they go there? I supposed the snake bit Whitey because of a brujeria because Whitey was not bothering it and wasn't too close to it, but that is entirely my assumption. If the brujo didn't cause it, then that was lame and unrealistic. I wondered how Alicia got the keys to Whitey's car. Decent writing could at least have plugged a few holes. Good writing could have made this movie really special. Overall I would say nice try. Keep working on your craft because you got my attention.
