The haunted locker

The locker films are very entertaining and definitely deserves to be watched. The locker- I found this to be a very entertaining film. It has got an original storyline, with some great scares. The scares in this film are relatively original. The hearing of the babies cry really scared me. Tension and fear build up towards the end of the film well. The scariest scene was the one where the girl got possessed and hung herself. The ending of this film was a very sad and touching one. This film has got very solid mystery elements. I love the storyline of this film. I loved this film. This film has got a lot of emotional moments. Very unique and original scares like showing the baby being covered by a cloth and her hand slowly comes out of the cloth. The mystery contributes to the scares. The main character is very pretty. This movie is mostly shot at night, making the scares much more effective. The locker 2- This is a direct sequel to the first film. People who have watched these two films would enjoy this sequel more than the original. For me, I liked the locker a lot more than the locker two. Unlike the locker one, where the scary scenes involves a baby being covered by a cloth with blood and hands slowly coming out of the cloth, the scary scenes in this film was not original, unlike the first one. Although this may be a little scarier, it does not gives as much entertainment value as the first one. I found this film to be highly derivative of JU-ON and One missed call. The twisting scene, the elevator scene, the use of the young girl with black hair and some of the other scenes were very similar to One missed call. Somehow, I did not find this movie to be as effective as the first one. However, the good thing about this film is that it is very fast paced and provides a wide variety of scares. There were many scenes that made me jump. Scores: The locker - 8/10 The locker 2 - 7.5/10

the perfect movie

i was in seoul (south Korea) and saw the film at an independent film-festival. i sat in the not specially comfortable seat and was not just touched by the film. the story is marvelously told and the acting is just amazing great. Mean Whang Cheol creates a film with just those things, that are really important: more or less one tiny room, most of the time two actors, simple camera... and it's this reduction to those important things, that makes this film just a masterpiece.

to everybody who has the special opportunity to see this - rarely shown

Review :

An inspector calls ... again

Hindi art film is a close adaptation of J B Priestley's play "An Inspector Calls." Surprisingly for a Hindi film, the "inspiration" of the Priestley drama *is* acknowledged, albeit only in the end credits.

If you know the play, you know the story. Wealthy businessman, fresh from celebrating the engagement of his daughter to the son of another industrial dynasty, is intruded upon by a police inspector. A young woman has hanged herself this evening in a Mumbai slum, and evidence at the scene suggests such a humble person had a significant connection to this family of movers and shakers. Each member of the clan is brought into the living room where the relentlessly interrogative cop brings out his or her links to the dead woman. Early on we get visual and dialogue clues that the inspector is something more than just Lt Columbo on the job.

I rented the film because it featured Neha Dubey, whom I liked a whole lot in "Monsoon Wedding" and wanted to see more of, and she didn't disappoint me, in a nice turn as the daughter of the millionaire. (Dubey's real-life mom plays her mother in the film, though the characters have little on-camera interaction -- but that's part of the point.) The ensemble cast all handle their roles well. The stage origins of the material are obvious but it's opened up via the film format and stays watchable and interesting throughout. Be advised that it's not a "Bollywood" film by any stretch -- rather, an Indian art picture with no musical interludes and a social message beyond the actual story. "Sau Jhooth Ek Sach" is the equivalent of a first-rate regional theater production of "An Inspector Calls," with localized Indian references.

Review :

The plot is the only Mystery in "The Inn"

While the film is a high-quality visually artistic expression from a relatively new director (Pepi Singh Khara) it never establishes a purpose and the viewer is often left wondering what is happening or where the action is even taking place. Too many attempts at a Hitchcockian style of shooting and too few establishing shots keep one guessing not "what's going to happen next?" but more often "what just happened?" An excellent score (provided by native Los Angelino and veteran composer Vincent Gillioz) helps compensate for the poor audio mixing and inconsistent dialogue volume. Performances from the relatively unknown cast range from passable-at-best to downright good and it's clear that there are a few rising stars among them. Although moving at a sluggish pace at times, the film finally comes to life when police are called to investigate a murder. The officers bring charisma and a much needed purpose to the film but sadly it is too little too late.

Review :

Absolute is a cool, audacious paranoid thriller for the 21st century

Absolute is a cool, audacious paranoid thriller for the 21st century: a high-tech, twisty cross between The Yes Men and The Parallax View which, crucially (and unlike fellow Rotterdam '05 title Primer) never lets its twists get out of hand, never becomes seduced by its own cleverness. And once again underlines the assertion (in a recent Variety review of another film) that "memory hocus-pocus is the new time-travel."

Intense, coltish Vincent Bonillo is Alex, an anti-globalisation activist based in the French- speaking part of Switzerland. Along with his colleague Fred (Francois Nadin), he has developed a computer virus which is intended to wreak havoc on the 'WLS' (World Leader Summit), a major intergovernmental conference about to be held in nearby Gstaad. At a crucial stage in the plan, however, Alex is injured in a car-accident. He wakes up with memory-loss, and consents to an experimental treatment designed to stimulate the damaged sections of his brain. This produces disorienting results - and also brings Alex to question who, if anyone, can be trusted. And to wonder what, exactly, is going on.

The viewer is placed firmly in Alex's shoes - and we're forced to pay attention as flashbacks and nightmarish dreams mount up, criss-cross: Alex's memories, fears and actual experiences blend into network of repeated scenes, images, lines, characters. This car, that shower, that pub. He (and we) keep spotting a certain woman with a dog - innocent passer- by, or sinister avatar of a vast, omnipotent conspiracy?

Wyder - who co-wrote the script with Yves Mugny and Maria Watzlawick - nudges Absolute into mild sci-fi territory, keeps at least one foot in the real, topical world (the World Leader Summit guestlist features the likes of Tony Blair) keeps the pace cracking along, keeps us on our toes, all the way through to the head-spinningly brave finale (easily the film's most impressive and memorable sequence). Denis Jutzeler's cinematography, meanwhile, is a series of unfussy but chilly DV images, shimmering with the frisson of a firewall facing breach.

A Great Movie.

I saw this movie for the first time 2 weeks ago at the Bangkok International Film Fest and it is amazing!! Not only is it scary as hell ( I've never screamed so much in a movie before and I'm an avid horror movie fan), it has a wonderful and original plot line. Throughout the entire movie, i thought i was going to have a heart attack i was so scared. I give a lot of credit to the 2 young directors of this movie. They are only in their early 20's and concocted a unique and entertaining film. Yesterday I just bought it on DVD and I cannot wait to watch it with my friends at home; they'll love it! This is a definite must see for all horror/thriller fans!

Review :

Rich storyline, twist ending will keep you guessing.

Best movie I've ever seen in my entire life.

The actor who plays Brenda is just fantastic.

I seriously recommend this movie. In fact I recommend this movie to all cancer patients because it's general greatness will instantly cure them. It's plot is very intriguing and the script is very well written. The twist ending will keep you guessing till the end. While tragic at times the story will overall make you feel like you have spent you time very well.

I give this movie a 10 out of 10 because it had enthralled me more then any other Hollywood movie could. I urge readers to watch this movie, it may be difficult to obtain but it is worth it.

Watch Silent Voyeur Trailer :

Review :

Challenges us to discover the truth

A naked man (Jake Molzan) wanders in a Florida swamp, bloodied and unable to remember if he was "wounded in love or wounded in hatred", or to recall any circumstances that brought him to his present state. Things do not become clearer when he stumbles upon an old house and sees a semi-hysterical man and woman aiming a shotgun at a man sitting on the floor in chains. This is only the start of the puzzle that awaits viewers of Georg Koszulinski's thriller Silent Voyeur, a film that challenges us to discover for ourselves where the truth lies and to what extent we are accomplices in media manipulation and exploitation for profit.

Shot entirely on location in Florida in Micanopy, Cross Creek, and the Florida Everglades, the film is loosely based on an actual incident in which a couple vacationing in Florida told authorities that they were kidnapped and forced to perform deviant acts while being filmed by a video camera. As the wounded man slowly regains his memory, we try to piece together what may or may not have happened. Koszulinski asks us to consider events from different points of view, one showing the amnesiac (called Victor by the couple and Tanner by his cameraman) as the instigator of the assault and another with the cameraman as perpetrator.

From Victor's vantage point, he and the young married couple, Randy (Eric D. Cheek) and his wife Veronica (Laura Sfire), were kidnapped by Edward (Nick Savage) and his buddy Logan (Shamrock McShane) while out fishing. The cameraman then forced all three to perform lewd acts while being filmed. This account raises questions as to how two rather slender middle-aged men could have overcome and subdued three younger people and dragged them back to the cabin. In one scenario, while Victor is beaten and driven to die in the swamps, the couple escape their bonds, kill Logan and chain the cameraman to the floor. In another, Victor overhears the cameraman and his accomplice plan to dispose of him to increase their take of the money but he is unable to prevent them from drugging him and driving him to the Everglades.

When Victor makes his way back to the house, he listens to Veronica who urges him to kill Edward while he has the chance, and to Edward who asserts that Tanner is actually the instigator of the affair. Edward claims that Tanner is the director who makes sordid films for a big paycheck from three avaricious movie moguls who are cashing in on the public's need to be voyeurs. In support, we hear Tanner recite a prepared speech that will send chills through your bones. Backed by the music of Monitor and some vintage country songs, Silent Voyeur is a small budget film and the acting can be very amateurish at times, but the grizzly plot will captivate you and hold your attention throughout. Do not expect any neat resolution, however. This one is in David Lynch territory.
